Former Merauke Regent: Papua Special Autonomy Distribution Must Be More Transparent

The former Regent of Merauke for the 2016-2021 period, Frederikus Gedze, provided support for the continuation of the Papua Special Autonomy (Otsus) program volume II. He admitted that he was very grateful to the government for paying attention to the development of the Papua region.

However, he hopes that the policy must go through an evaluation first because there are still many people who did not feel Otsus in the previous period.

“People think that the Otsus funds only make local government officials and those who administer the funds richer. This has always been the reason why people voiced their rejection,” he said, Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

That way, in the implementation of Otsus volume II later, distribution for the community will be more targeted, both through economic development, physical development, education, health and other infrastructure.

He also expressed his support for the implementation of the XX PON in Papua, especially the Merauke region. He considered that the election of Papua as the host was a form of attention from the central government.

“We must be proud of the XX PON in Papua. Let’s support the sustainability of PON XX in Papua,” he said.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Youth Leader Marianus Tenawatmi S.kom. He personally felt the positive impact of Otsus Papua. As a native Papuan, he feels that there is government assistance for the education of Papuan youth.

“I am a native Papuan since I was in school until I became a communications graduate, I really feel the benefits and benefits,” he said.

Marianus also hopes that development in Puncak Regency can continue. Especially through education so that it will embrace young people and women to close ranks in support of Otsus Volume II.

On the other hand, he highlighted the allocation of Special Autonomy funds in the past. According to him, in every central government program related to the disbursement of funds from the past until now, they are still faced with the same problem. The allocation of funds is often misused by political elites for personal gain.

He also asked that the socialization of Otsus could be intensified so that people could understand the purpose and purpose of Otsus presence in Papua.
