West Papua DPR Gives 14 Points of Feedback Regarding Special Autonomy Law Revision

The commitment to build a secure and prosperous future for the land of Papua must continue to be strengthened.

This was emphasized by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD when receiving the West Papua People’s Representative Council, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Wednesday (30/6/2021).

In the West Papua DPR meeting, Mahfud MD explained that dialogue with Papua, both with people’s representatives and community leaders will continue to build a secure and prosperous Papua future.

“So what he emphasizes is that welfare and prosperity will be achieved if our security is built as well as possible,” said Mahfud.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the West Papua DPR, Orgenes Wonggor, who represented all the Papuan people and the Papua Special Committee, emphasized his commitment to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Orgenes Wonggor expressed his aspirations for the improvement of Papua in the future, especially in the context of the revision of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy (Otsus) for the Papua Province.

In response to this, Mahfud MD emphasized that he would continue to oversee and follow up on various inputs and proposals related to a better future for Papua.

“There are 14 points of input, we accommodate. Later, those that need to be processed will be processed, then some have been included in the revision of the law, some can later be channeled to technical implementation and so on,” said Mahfud.
