Reduce KKB, Papuan Police Use a Welfare Approach in Prone Areas

The Papua Police will take a welfare approach for residents in areas prone to Armed Criminal Groups (KKB). However, the legal approach is still emphasized to take action against the people involved in the KKB.

“We will take the welfare approach and enforce the law. We will not take a step back, of course, in a soft way,” said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri in Jayapura, Monday (8/3/2021).

According to him, the Papua Regional Police Deputy, Brigadier General Pol Eko Rudi Sudarto, who is part of the Noken Binmas Task Force, will continue what Polda Papua had previously initiated. One of them is collaborating with the Nemangkawi Task Force assigned to the National Police Headquarters to take this approach.

He hopes that this approach can re-embrace residents who have joined the KKB to return to society.

Apart from that, the Papua Police will also oversee the Special Autonomy (Otsus) fund. He said he would build communication together so that the use of the special autonomy funds was right on target.

However, if anyone tries to misuse the special autonomy funds, the Papua Police will not hesitate to take action against the perpetrators by bringing them to legal proceedings.
